Brother in the Wild – Bordeaux 2019

Location: Bordeaux, France
Launch Party: Friday 13th September @ Musette Bicycle & Coffee
Start: 10am Saturday 14th September 2019
Finish: Approx. 5pm Sunday 15th September 2019

We’re super excited about the latest addition to our European ‘Brother in the Wild’ tour! This time collaborating with the good guys at Musette Bicycles & Coffee in the heart of historic Bordeaux, France. As local experts in bikepacking (and brewing coffee!) the guys from Musette are the perfect partners to create an unforgettable bikepacking overnighter – keeping it in the spirit of ‘Brother in the Wild’ just swapping the usual beers for bottles of wine.

The event will be a 2 day ride and 1 night campout starting and finishing at the Musette shop in Bordeaux. The route will take you East out of the city into Entre Deux Mers – a world famous wine region full of rolling hills and chateaus.

You will pass a number of towns and villages along the way to stop for food and refreshments – the most famous being St Emilion, a medieval world heritage site famous for its architecture and fine wines. This is a perfect place to kick back and relax with some lunch.

After this the route snakes along the Dordogne river before following a network of tiny country lanes and gravel tracks until reaching our home for the night – the grounds of a large manor house where we’ll enjoy a BBQ dinner and wine tasting before camping out under the stars.

On the second day, after breakfast in camp, you will follow the Garonne River before breaking off towards Lake Hostens for a refreshing swim. From here you make your way back to Bordeaux via a series of bike paths, weaving in and out of small towns to rest and resupply when you need.

Those not wanting to ride today have the option of taking a local train back into the city.

The route will be approximately 100km each day on mostly bike paths and country lanes with relatively little climbing. It is not that rough, however we do recommend a bike with 28c tyres or larger to get the most enjoyment from the ride.

Tickets cost £35 per person and include the following:

– Entry to the ride including gpx files for the suggested routes

– A pitch at the campsite for 1 night on the 14th September

– A welcome beer and wine tasting at the campsite

– A BBQ dinner and breakfast at the campsite – meat and vegetarian options available

We will also host a launch party at the Musette shop on the Friday before the ride – come and make some final adjustments to your bike, have a beer and meet some other riders.
