The Brotherhood | Stefan & Dave from Pannier.cc Complete The Silk Road Mountain Race

Meet Stefan and Dave – our second entry into the Brotherhood and the bikepacking tour guides/adventure curators behind Pannier.cc – a company offering bike tours, camps and expeditions around the globe.

For the last year we’re proud to say they’ve used two of our Big Bro adventure bikes to lead their tours – the perfect rig for lugging their heavy guide kit through the Welsh Cambrian Mountains, Scottish Highlands and soon the Nepalese Himalayas in 2020.

Towards the end of last year the guys reached out to me with their plan to enter the Silk Road Mountain Race – a 1,710km unsupported bikepacking race through the remote Tian Shan mountains of Kyrgyzstan.

This is widely regarded as one of the hardest, if not the hardest, endurance bikepacking races in the world – challenging riders with extreme weather conditions, high altitude mountain passes and long sections of unrideable rocky tracks. So, we’re very proud to say that Stefan, Dave and both of their bikes made it to the finish line in a time of 12 days, 16 hours and 38 minutes…

“There is no doubt about it, the Silk Road Mountain Race is the deep end; other worldly around every corner and over every col… The ideal bikepacking playground: challenging, remote, morale-boosting, morale-crushing, beautiful, ugly, all the adjectives. An incredible experience, and a relief to finish”

The guys have put together a fantastic journal piece on Kyrgyzstan, the race and the kit required to complete this mammoth ride! Head over to the Pannier.cc journal to read all about it here…
