We’re very excited to bring our bikepacking event ‘Brother in the Wild’ back to Bordeaux this spring on its European tour! Once again we will be collaborating with the good guys at Musette Bicycles & Coffee in the heart of historic Bordeaux, France. As local experts in bikepacking (and brewing coffee!) the guys from Musette are the perfect partners to create an unforgettable bikepacking overnighter.
The event will be a 2 day ride and 1 night campout starting and finishing at the Musette shop in Bordeaux. The route will take you North-East out of the city, roughly following the beautiful Dordogne river. The riding will be on a mix of small roads and rough gravel tracks, leading you into remote areas with very little to interrupt the stunning French countryside. Throughout the day you will experience some forest single track, abandoned railway lines and quaint French villages to rest and restock your supplies.
Just before reaching camp the route passes a picturesque lake for those that are interested in a spot of wild swimming. After this you will reach your home for the night, a simple but perfectly located campsite which we have privately hired for the event. A heart-warming BBQ dinner will be served for everyone before you spend the evening relaxing around the campfire, exchanging stories from the trail and discussing the exciting day ahead.
On the second day, after breakfast in camp, the route heads towards the port town of Blaye where the group will catch a quick and scenic ferry ride to Lamarque. From here you will follow the Garonne river, with its famous ‘carrelet’ fishing huts on stilts, before eventually heading off-road again! Over the course of the day you’ll enjoy the finest trails and country lanes that the region has to offer as you ride through the famous vineyards of Médoc. As you make your way back towards Bordeaux you’ll pass through the stunning Grunères and Gravier natural parks before eventually hitting the lively streets of Bordeaux again.
The route will be approximately 85km each day on mostly gravel tracks and country lanes with relatively little climbing. The terrain is not that rough, however we do recommend a bike with 35c tyres or larger to get the most enjoyment from the ride.
Tickets cost €70 per person and include the following:
– Brother in the Wild wooden Dangle Disc – hang this off your bike to show you’re a ticket holder!
– Brother in the Wild event patch
– 1 night’s camping in private campsite
– Welcome drink at the campsite – beer/wine/soft drink
– BBQ dinner Saturday night – vegan option available
– Coffee and light breakfast Sunday morning
– Route information via the komoot app – GPX download available
– Free komoot region bundle pack
We will also host a laid-back launch party at the Musette shop on the Friday night of the event – come and make some final adjustments to your bike, have a drink and meet some fellow riders before the ride.
