Snapshots from Munich #1 // Brother in the Wild

Brother in the Wild Munich, with the team at Guten Biken, holds a very special place in my heart. This was the 4th time we’ve run this event and it just gets better and better.

Everything kicks off with a laid-back launch party at Guten Biken on Friday night, where guests can hang out at the shop, meet other riders and make final preparations to their kit. The team at Guten Biken (headed up by founder Davo) are super welcoming, knowledgeable and always on hand to help with mechanical questions or just to grab you a beer – the shop is a treasure trove of interesting kit from vintage mtb frames to modern gravel bikes.

The ride itself is an ‘out-and-back’ loop which starts in the centre of Munich and heads to a private campsite in the foothills of the Alps – the routes stay mostly off-road and wind their way through scenic Bavaria on a mix of river trails and forest tracks. Along the way riders stop to cool off with river swims and at lakeside beach bars for plates of currywurst and ice cold German lager. In camp we prepare a well deserved BBQ dinner before relaxing around a roaring campfire.

This year we had around 80 riders taking part with a nice mix of BITW regulars and first-timers – the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming with everyone getting to know each other by the end of the weekend. Brother in the WIld Munich really is one of our highlights of the year, long may it continue…
